It seems like an eternity since I gave an update on the comic I'm working on. Well, it's finished and for any locals in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who are interested in picking up a copy of PROWL issue 1, were having a release day on September 26th at AstroZombies comic shop on Central. I'll be there along with the writer/creator and producer to sign and what not.
And to the ideology...but first let me say that Im an infant to the comic book business and my opinions will reflect that.
So lately everyone is talking about the Disney takeover of Marvel, and understandably it's sparked an internet frenzy of paranoia, questions, and prophecy; I've read a grip load of journals here on Deviant Art alone about it. Whats good about this, whether you hate Disney or not, is that its created a self reflection, or renaissance. Where did we come from and where are comics going?
For someone like myself who is trying his best to grab some footing in comics these journal entrees made me examine my own naivety to the politics involved in this business. I was blind to the fact that comic books, like every other businesses out there, is a BUSINESS. Run by checks and balances and fails or succeeds by them. That being said, the Disney takeover I think could be a good thing based on the simple fact of now Marvel will have a bigger budget. It could also create new opportunities for unconventional comic artists with different styles assuming Marvel is given an overhaul of sorts. When I say overhaul though, I mean loosening the ropes on the classic comic book style of art, NOT Now that everyone at Marvel answers to the alpha and omega that is DISNEY, you must shave your facial hair and convert to Christianity. Maybe thats extreme, but honestly thats what I kind of thought when I heard about the takeover.
Mainly though, what I think people need to remind themselves of, is that the business of comics will ultimately be determined by the fans. Comics will remain what people want as long as they supply and nurture the growth and/or direction; that being said; support local and indie comic books like the one Im releasing. Ha Ha, Gotcha!
